Sneak Peek …6 – Ever the Wind Shawl

Sneak Peek #6: Ever the Wind Shawl

Ever the wind shawl 4-150c_18

Ever the Wind Shawl

Available March 27, 2013

Only one day to go! This is a brand new collection of six knitting patterns  ~“In Tune”  ~ that will be published March 27, 2013 by Knit Picks.

So, from the pattern collection intro:

“From the ethereal voice of Enya to the heart-stirring Irish airs of Tommy Makem to the social harmonies of Ultimate Spinach, music stirs our emotions and influences our being.”

And here I offer a tip of the hat to Tommy Makem for his beautiful tune ‘Ever the Winds‘.

Cables and lace harmonize to create this lovely arc-shaped shawl knit in a luxurious merino / silk blend.

This shawl is worked bottom-up in Knit Picks Gloss Fingering - a yarn with a truly lovely hand – one of my favourites!

On March 27th, check the Impeccable Knits Ravelry Storefront for the pattern listings and links and check out the Knit Picks books selection.

New Project, New Yarn

KP Galileo ball 3-150c

So here’s the luscious yarn that’s my current ‘on the needles’ project.

The yarn is Knit Picks Galileo Sport - a lovely merino / bamboo blend that is very soft to the touch and has a bit of a sheen from the bamboo. The colour is ‘Sand’ but, monitors…you know…best representation is the KP catalog – it’s spot on when I compared my ball of yarn to the catalog page.

I’m working on a new shawl pattern :) – always so excited about a new project but this one is so clever!! thanks to the stitch dictionaries created by the fabulous Annie Maloney – you can find her here on Ravelry –   and the yarn is working up beautifully.

The design is a cables and lace shawl but not super thin, wispy kind of lace – it has a bit more body to it. The charts, of course, are being done in Stitch Mastery so there’ll be written as well as charted directions.

Moebius (Mobius) Cast On and Twisted Backward Loop Cast On added to Techniques tab

Just added a picture tutorial for the Moebius Cast On and Twisted Backward Loop Cast On to the Techniques, Tips and Tutorials tab on the blog.

Woodland Grace Moebius

Woodland Grace Moebius Knitting Pattern

The Moebius cast on is used for knitting patterns  Woodland Grace Moebius and Double Lyre Moebius.   While maybe a little tricky at first, it’s such fun to watch the Moebius grow outward from the centre. And, check the Raverly pattern page for the Woodland Grace Moebius ~ knitters have been having so much fun playing with fibre and colour with this pattern! Fantastic!!

New issue of Knit Edge magazine

is out – Issue #2 (pulished by Cooperative Press).

It has some gorgeous patterns but what interested me the most was Jennette Cross’ (Doviejay Knits) article on shawl shaping. She’s invented a unique method for shaping shawls that she’s named Combination Shawls. You can read her blog post on the article here which also has a link to her beautiful Watershed Shawl. Can hardly wait to try my hand at designing one!

Photo Shoot

The On the Moor Shawl knitting pattern was also picked up by Knit Pick’s IDP program and here’s a little behind-the-scenes look at the photo shoot that Knit Picks did for the shawl.

I find the attention to little details, like the wild flowers for the second example, just fascinating.

Happiness in new yarn!

Cascade 220 Sport Superwash (left) and Cascade 220 Heather (right)

Why does that package of new yarn in the mail always give one that lovely feeling?

First, I’d like to give a shout-out to the folks at Yarn Forward (Stittsville, ON). I ordered my yarn online on Sunday (5th) and received it here, in rural NS, today the 10th! Thank you!!

This is my first foray into Cascade 220 yarn (I know, where have I been??). So far I have only fondled — both the sport superwash (left) and regular 220 are wonderfully soft; yum!!  You’ll notice I snuck an Addi needle in there too :)

The Sport Superwash is in the Granny Smith colourway; I was afraid it would be too pale, but it’s perfect for what I’m planning — a beautiful spring green that just exudes images rebirth and new beginnings. This is destined to become shawl #4 in the Celtic Shawl series. And this new design will have a new and interesting shape — different from all the others.  (The series already includes a Faroese-style shawl in fingering weight ‘On the Moor‘, a crescent shaped one in worsted weight ‘Margaree Harbour‘ and Lady of the Canyon which is a rectangular shawl in fingering weight yarn.)

The Cascade 220 is a heathered Moss Green and I think it will become a Celtic vest — we’ll see.

Celtic Shawl #3: On the Moor published

Here’s the latest design in this series of shawl knitting patterns.

The Faroese-style incorporates shoulder shaping and the tapered back panel to create a shawl that fits like no other!

The double closed-loop cable is the star of this show!!

Full details are on the Ravelry pattern page.
