Ravelry Public Viewing of Patterns and Aran Lace by Annie Maloney

Ravelry Public Viewing of patterns and projects

Currently on a trial basis, members can sign up to have their patterns visible to the public. This means that anyone can view those patterns and projects in the Ravelry database. This is great news for those who’d like to share their patterns and projects with friends and family who really don’t want to sign up for a Ravelry account.

Here’s a link to the moebius scarf I finished recently Woodland Grace (see sidebar for pic) so you can try it out.

Lacy Lattice Shawl in Knit Picks Gloss on 3mm needles

Lacy Lattice Shawl swatch

Aran Lace by Annie Maloney

This little swatch is the beginning of the Lacy Lattice Shawl designed by Annie Maloney and published in her new book Aran Lace (a collection of 101 original knitting stitch patterns plus loads of extra informative tidbits, techniques and the voice of experience). This is the first knitting I’ve done for me in many a year but I had to try both the stitch pattern and the unusual shaping of this shawl.

The yarn: Knit Picks Gloss Fingering (merino/silk blend)

Needles: 3mm /US3

Ravelympics/ Kniting Olympics Day 4

Progress is evident! I have been knitting (and trying to be good about the pattern writing), just not posting as faithfully as I thought I would. I need a little camera attached to my glasses so the I can just click with the blink of an eye to capture all the moments!

I used a 3-needle bind-off  yo join the Back and Front at the underarm, keeping this a “no seaming” project.  I’m almost finished the first sleeve — about another inch to go. I’m almost through the first ball of yarn and had one of those heart-stopping moments — I won’t have enough!!!!! But then realized that the Rope cable panels were knit from that first ball of yarn and won’t be repeated — I should have lots! Happy dance :)

Things are progressing so nicely I may have to revise my challenge to include the completion of the pattern writing.

Yarn Harlot’s Knitting Olympics and Ravelympics

Well, this year I have decided to join the Yarn Harlot’s Knitting Olympics and the Ravelympics ! I’m designing a new child’s sweater (for my Cranberry Ocean line ) which will be a sideways knit — that’s my challenge! Come join the fun!

Edit Feb 12/10:

I swatched for the sweater last night.

Yarn: Patons Classic Wool in Water Chestnut
Needles: 3.75mm

This is the swatch for the central cable that will run down the Front and the Back of the sweater — a simple 2/2 Rope cable; the sides and sleeves will be knit sideways from those centre panels. It’s all about trying to be seamless!

Cast-on is tonight!!

Extended Haiti Relief Efforts

Edit Feb 6/10: To date 10 patterns have been sold for a total of   $9.55  for the CRC Haiti Relief effort.

Edit Feb 2/10: Things are a little slow, I think, because many designers designated Haiti support only for January and many people may think that that commitment is now over. Only 2 patterns sold to date raising $1.59 for the Canadian Red Cross Relief efforts.

Since your response was so great in January, I’ve decided to continue a modified fund-raising effort for the Canadian Red Cross Haiti Relief fund through to the end of February 2010. For this month, 20% of sales of selected patterns will be donated to the CRC again.

If you belong to Ravelry (free ), you can see all 1400+ patterns from all the designers who are generously donating a portion of their profits to Haiti relief efforts.

Thank You for Supporting Haiti Relief

A huge thank you to all who supported this effort by purchasing patterns in January. Thanks to you, $200 has been donated today to the Canadian Red Cross Haiti Relief Effort.

The devastation in Haiti will required so much help it boggles the mind. However, even small donations like this one (and it seems very small when you see people donating thousands, hundreds of thousands and even millions of dollars) will help tremendously — because even these little donations will help buy food, shelter and medicine. I believe that every penny counts. Thank you for helping.

Ravelry.com has provided a wonderful way to help designers reach out to those in need.

Ravelry has provided the special Help for Haiti tag for patterns (you have to be a member to see the patterns on these pages — membership is free) so that Ravellers can see at a glance those patterns for which designers are offering to donate monies to relief agencies working in Haiti. Purchasers pay the regular price for the pattern and the designer donates a specified amount to a relief agency of their choice.

Selected PurpleSage, South Mountain ~ Naturally and Cranberry Ocean Knits knitting patterns are part of this program. 50% of sales until January 31, 2010 will be donated to the Canadian Red Cross to aid in their relief efforts in Haiti.
