Lady of the Canyon Shawl has arrived!

Lady of the Canyon Shawl

“Trina takes her paints and threads and weaves a pattern all her own,” Joni Mitchell sings in her ‘Ladies of the Canyon

Another example of music influencing design….it’s the inspiration for this shawl…  the combination of the very unique Aran Lace stitch patterns1 and wonderful merino / silk blend  yarn2.

This is the second pattern in the Celtic Shawl Series – Lady of the Canyon. The link leads to the Ravelry pattern page.

(The first pattern in the Series is my Margaree Harbour Shawl)

::wink:: little plug here for our new software program: the written directions for this shawl were generated using knitXpress  - 132 lines of written directions took less than 10 seconds to be formatted to all caps at the beginning, periods at the end of each line, identifying all of the repeats within each line and all of the row repeats, etc.; needless to say I love it!   :)

knitXpress Beta v_03

We’re on knitXpress Beta v_03 with v_04 following fast on its heels.

Two main improvements for v_o3 include:

  • if all odd numbered or even numbered rows are identical, knitXpress will generate
    • “R1 and all odd numbered rows: ……” or
    • “R2 and all even numbered rows: …..”
  • if several sequential rows repeat a previous row, then knitXpress will combine the results thus:
    • “R5-8: Rep R1.”

What’s in store for v_04?

Beta v_04 will include the ability to produce mirrored output instructions e.g. for lace shawls.  We’re also working on a way to have the program warn the user if there are missing rows or duplicate rows.

Currently we’re still hoping for an April 18, 2011 launch!!

Lots more info on the knitXpress website.

Whitney Pier Socks picture of delicate lace and cable socks

Whitney Pier Socks

My Whitney Pier Socks pattern has been accepted into the Knit Picks Independent Designer Program (IDP)!!!! I’m very excited :)

The socks are knit in Stroll Sock Yarn in the Dove Heather colourway and the pattern is now available through their website here.

Just a note: The pattern in the sidebar available through Ravelry.com is an expanded pattern and has both sock yarn and sport yarn versions for this sock; the Knit Picks version only has the sock/fingering weight version included.

Kilaren scarf pattern published

lace scarf

Kilaren Scarf

This scarf started out as one of those “I need something to take along and knit in the car” projects — very small and easy to carry.

The scarf is only 4 1/2″ wide but 72″ long (11.5 x 183 cm) so there are lots of wearing possibilities. The sample scarf took 250 yds of Fleece Artist Somoko (a hand painted fingering-weight yarn; 355 yds/ 325m per 4 oz/ 115g skein; 65% merino, 20% kid, 10% nylon, 5% silk).

only $3.95USD

I had some fun trying to find the perfect cover shot — I took over 30 pictures. Thought you might like to see some of the ones that didn’t make it ( I don’t “clean up” the ones that don’t make it, so you’ll see background blips and colour oddities that wouldn’t be there if they were “the one”):

All rolled up and nowhere to go!
