Make 5 (M5)

It’s been a long time coming but I finally posted the photo tutorial for the M5 (Make 5 from 1) increase that’s used for the closed ring cables in my Margaree Harbour Shawl pattern.

It’s a great way to start any closed ring cable – Enjoy!

It’s here! I’ve been looking for a Canadian source of excellent wool yarns and I couldn’t be more excited! My package from Shelridge Farm (now operated by Lyn Gemmell of Cabin Fever) came today and I am smitten!!

I ordered three sample yarns:

1. (top) Soft Touch Heather (85% Wool, 15% Nylon) 3-Ply Fingering in Opal
2. (middle) Soft Touch Lace (100% Wool) 2-Ply Laceweight in Iris
3. (bottom) Soft Touch Ultra (100% Wool) 3-Ply Fingering in Peacock

‘Soft Touch’ says it all – this yarn feels like butter! Definitely next-to-the-skin soft. I’m so excited!

And, as you can see from the shade/colour cards, the yarns come in loads of delicious colours!

Thought you might like to see close up pictures of the two special techniques used in the Winds of Change: Southwind Shawl: the 2 Colour Long Tail Cast On and the 2 Colour I-Cord Bind Off.

The 2 Colour Long Tail Cast On makes it so easy to cast on a large number of stitches – no fear of running out of yarn just those couple of stitches short of the required number!!

Southwind Shawl

Our newest knitting pattern – Southwind! A crescent shaped shawl. Read the story behind the name.

A two-colour cast on and a two-colour bind off are used on this one.

Yarn is Knit Picks Palette in Green Tea Heather (light) and Edamame (dark).

Just in case you’ve been wondering what’s been on the needles…

Here’s a peek at the next pattern (coming shortly to the Impeccable Knits Ravelry store) — my Southwind Shawl — it’s a short row crescent shawl in two tones of Knit Picks Palette. This yarn comes in 150 colours so just think of the possibilities! The stitch pattern, again, is from a collection by the talented Annie Maloney.

EarthSea Cowl

The EarthSea Cowl was first published in 2008.

It’s a lovely lace and cable design that begins with a Twisted Latvian cast on and ends in a rolled hem creating two entirely different looks. It is worked in two colors, one color for each end with the two colors being interlaced in the center.

All of our migrated patterns have charts created using Stitch Mastery as well as our new template design. Every pattern page now also shows the pattern cover page and the pattern details page, like this:

This way knitters can see all of the requirements including all of the stitch abbreviations and special pattern notes.

Frolic child’s cardi

Frolic has a fresh face! A child’s cardigan with an offset front, six sizes, two choices for button holes (each in three sizes) and the chance to mix and match all kinds of colours!

Buttonholes are either worked as knit-on tabs (first pic) or as a scalloped buttonhole band that is sewn on.

yellow twin pails

I love browsing in thrift stores, going to estate auctions and wandering through flea markets to see what treasures they hold.

Today at a local thrift store I saw these adorable twin pails and couldn’t resist – and they’re perfect for my crochet hooks, needle gauges, cable needles, scissors, etc. And such a beautiful, bright yellow!
